Energy Level Batteries (Simple)
This battery visual helps older children and adults to identify their energy and alertness in order to use management techniques for self regulation. It can be used as a communication tool to develop emotional intelligence and mental wellbeing.
So, what is each battery level?
EMPTY symbolises our lowest level of energy or mood. It encompasses emotions such as tired, sad, sick, bored and lonely.
If we are completely empty, regulation activities that give us more energy, help us rest or stimulate us are often helpful. In the classroom or home these can often be brain breaks, stretching, drinking water, quick burst exercises, talking to a friend or sleeping.
ORANGE battery level is usually when something has took some of our alertness or energy away. This can be things such as somebody annoying us, perhaps some background noise that is distracting you or the work is too hard. Often regulation activities here are quicker rather than letting your battery deplete. It can be quick choices such as finding a quiet space, colouring, jumping.
RED battery level symbolises running on very little energy. Your patience may be running thin, you may be tired or finding it hard to find the motivation to do things. Activities to charge you back up may look like mindful breathing, finding a quiet space, reading, resting. These activities may need a little more time to charge you back up.
GREEN is fully charged and feeling inspired, calm, focused or happy.
Remember - all battery levels are okay! The goal is to recognise we feel a diverse range of energy levels and concentration everyday. The more we are aware of these, the better we can become at meeting our goals in the day and using the best regulation tools to do so.
